Our Story — From India to the USA
Brian Theis - Owner
Om Threads Boutique was born from a personal connection to India. Mimi Enterprises, in India, comes from a family involved in the garments business. Their daughter moved to the USA for higher studies and eventually we married in India. I had the opportunity to experience India not simply as a visitor, but through its family traditions, celebrations and everyday culture. Sometimes, it is only after leaving one's birthplace that its culture and traditions are truly appreciated. For me, travelling through Northern India revealed how wonderfully diverse and vibrant Indian culture is—how every region, state and community carries its own history, textiles, rituals and traditions. During my travels, I also had the opportunity to meet local artisans and witness the shawl-making process first-hand—from the patient weaving of wool threads into beautiful fabrics to the intricate hand embroidery that transforms each piece into something unique. Seeing the skill, patience and dedication behind these textiles gave me a deeper appreciation for the people and traditions that keep this heritage alive. My experience became particularly meaningful. At our wedding in Jaipur, Indian stoles were gifted during the Milni, a beautiful tradition where the families of the bride and groom formally meet and exchange greetings and gifts. What touched me was the symbolism behind it—a simple gesture that brings two families closer and represents an enduring bond between them. That moment became the inspiration behind Om Threads Boutique: to bring a small but meaningful part of India's heritage to the USA—for Indians living far from their homeland and for those discovering the richness of Indian culture for the first time. Woven with Heritage. Wrapped in Tradition. For generations, shawls and draped textiles have been woven into India's cultural, artistic and spiritual traditions. At Om Threads Boutique, I believe these beautiful textiles can carry that heritage forward. Our shawls and stoles are sourced through ethical, eco-friendly and fair-trade practices from skilled artisans in Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and remote villages of Punjab, drawing upon generations-old weaving and hand-embroidery traditions. And behind every piece are the artisans—especially women—who are not merely participants in this tradition, but its silent creators, custodians and heartbeat. When you choose one of our shawls, you are choosing more than a beautiful textile. You are helping keep a living tradition alive, supporting artisan livelihoods and carrying a piece of India's culture and heritage into the future. Every thread carries a story. Every shawl carries a piece of India.
